Translations of Ghazal Love Poetry

The Face of Time…

By Bashar bin Bard

A fair-eyed Lady from Ma’ad; as though Her speech were the fruits of paradisal groves…

When She stands to walk, She would sway, as though Her bones were made of bamboo stalks…

Gazing at Her will make you forget all other desires; Her face turns away the face of time… 1

  1. Her face, “turning away the face of time,” is a beautiful metaphor for Her youth and fairness, which seems to never age! ↩︎
