Nusaymat Al-Hima, translated as ‘Soft Breezes of the Sanctuary’ is a blog where I translate, and at times interpret, Arabic ghazal poetry.
Ghazal poetry is a timeless theme within the larger Arabic poetic tradition, being used for intentions which range from profane to profound love. As such, ghazal became a wellspring of symbols by which poets expressed their love for whatever beloved they intended. The beloved ranged from the human to the Divine; meditations and elaborations on that love flowed in so many wonderful expressions which soften the heart.
As such, most of what I will post of my translations of these poems will have come from the more mystically inclined poets of our tradition. Nonetheless, generally speaking, I will simply share whatever love poem I happen upon which I fancied to translate and share for a wider audience. Wether the poet is a Sufi or a mere lover, the source of Love is the same in the end, the difference only being in the one intended!
